Fall 2019-Scores for week 13

Well, this is a first.  I’ve been playing in TOPL for 11 years now, and scorekeeping for 5, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a season tied (as you can see on the PAPA site).  In the simplest terms, with everything down to the wire, John won the season!  After some consultation, we decided that for the purposes of the TOPL records, we’d let the tie stand, so there’ll be a special “JRF John Flitton/JAZ John Zaharatos” plaque on there for all eternity.  If, in five years, someone asks why there’s a plaque with two names on it-this is the reason.  It’ll be a little like lifetime high score standings-back when we had those-had two players with half a high score on them.  John Z has graciously offered to let John F take the top spot for the WPPR submission, but in the end this can go down as the first recorded tied season in topl history (until proven otherwise).  Congratulations to both Johns!

Besides the season championship, Ryan Matheson won the handicap award with a pretty sizeable lead, and Ryan also takes home the Most Improved trophy with an impressive 27% jump over past performance.  Congrats Ryan!

Also, you’ll be receiving voting information for the TOPL elections in the next day or so from Jim, our election CRO (Chief Returning Officer).  Thanks to Jim for taking this on, and thanks to David Newman, Chris Draper, Mike Luciani, Ryan Matheson, and Myles Cameron for stepping up to run for an SLO position.  This league exists because of our hosts, and our members, but what brings those two things together is our leadership team.  Everyone who takes on an SLO position is working for free, and doing so to make sure we can have fun playing competitive pinball every week.

Next week is our playoffs at the Player One showroom, so thanks in advance to Jerry for opening up for us.  Remember, there’s still time to buy a new pin before Christmas.  Have a great week everyone!

Fall 2019-Scores for week 12

Thanks to Luch for hosting this week!  With one more week to go, things are really close for the season lead, as you can see by the scores here.  John Z is just 2 points ahead of JRF, so scores next week could determine who wins the season.

Also, just a reminder that if anyone is interested in one of the exec positions for TOPL, now is the time to speak up.  Luch, Newman and I are all happy to continue on, but if anyone else wants to take a stab at running this circus as President, Scorekeeper, or Treasurer, send an email to topl@groups.io and let everyone know.  The deadline to declare your candidacy is Tuesday Dec 10 at 11:59 pm.

In case you missed the calendar update, Andy wasn’t able to host next week, so I’m taking over.  It’s been a while since I’ve hosted, but many of the same games are still here.  See everyone next Monday!

2019 TOPL Election

Hello ToPL!

As you may or may not know, every two years, the league holds elections for the three leadership positions. It has been two years since our last elections, so the time is at hand!

For those new to the league, the current leadership is:

Treasurer – Mike Luciani

Score Keeper – Chris Bardon

President – David Newman

The league rules provide members the opportunity to run for a particular position and volunteer their time and effort to make the league better for everyone.

Mike, Chris, and myself are interested in and happy to continue in these leadership positions, volunteering our time for the league. If anyone would like to volunteer their time and effort for any of these positions, we will schedule an election for the specific position.

Full details on ToPL leadership elections and eligibility can be found in the ToPL Rules, (Section 1.2 & 1.3)

In order to be considered for a position, the member would need to submit their application via the ToPL Groups email, stating which position they would be interested in volunteering for. This open nomination is available until December 10th (11:59 pm EST). If multiple members are vying for particular position, voting will be held from December 11th until December 15th, 2019.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Fall 2019-scores for week 11

Thanks to Kim for hosting this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and John Z has pulled into the lead, with Myles and JRF close behind.  Ryan continues to dominate the most improved and handicap races.

Also, thanks to Donna for making the new, more spacious score sheets for us (and consider this your reminder to send me the template).

Next week we’re back up to Luch’s place-hope to see everyone there!

Fall 2019-scores for week 10

Thanks to Jim for hosting this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and now that we’re down to the last few weeks of the season, every point counts.  John Z and Charles are tied for the season lead right now, with 5 more players within 5 points of the lead.  Ryan continues to dominate the most improved standings this season as well.

We’re back out to Kim’s place next Monday-have a great week everyone!

Winter 2019-scores for week 9

Thanks to Nick for hosting this week!  We ended up with fewer than usual people for Nick’s place because of the weather, but we still had 21 players, including 4 new members.  Hopefully we see you guys out next week as well!   Also, a special thanks to Jerry at Player One for lending the Willy Wonka machine last night.  It’s always great to get a chance to try out the newest pins.  Scores for this week are on the PAPA site, and despite neither of them being there last night, Charles and John are still 1st and 2nd in the standings.

Also, don’t forget that there are still a couple of spots left for the match play tournament this weekend.  Remember that this is an open event, so anyone can come out.  Details are on the Tournaments page.

We’re back out to Jim’s place next week, and hopefully we’ve had our Monday night snowstorm for the season.  Have a great week everyone!

Fall 2019-scores for week 7

Thanks to Luch for hosting this week!  Scores are up in the usual place, and Charles has retaken the season lead, although the next 12 players are within 10 points of the lead.  We’ve also got some big numbers on the Most Improved board this season.

We’ll be playing at the pint next week, so there’s no host fee, but the games are on coin drop.  Have a great week everyone!

Fall 2019-scores for week 6

Thanks to Andy for hosting this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and Andy continues to have a strong season, maintaining his spot at the top of the standings.  We’ve also got a bunch of players with double digit percentage improvements so far, but we’ll see what holds for the rest of the season.

We also just put up registration for the fall match play tournament at Dave Smith’s place on Nov 17th, and it’s selling out quickly.  Make sure to pre-register if you’re interested in playing.

Next week we’re back at Luch’s place-have a great week!

Fall 2019-Scores for week 5

Thanks to the crew at Tilt for hosting us this week!  Glad to see that location pinball is alive and well in Toronto, since the place was pretty packed last night!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and congrats to Ryan and Andy for getting perfect scores this week.

Just a reminder that there’s no regular league night next Monday, but that Myles is running a Flip Frenzy tournament at Jim’s place on the 14th starting at 7:30 pm.  The next regular league night is at Andy’s place on the 21st.  Have a great long weekend everyone!

Fall 2019-Scores for week 4

Thanks to Scott for opening up Bluffs this week for us!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and it looks like Myles and Charles have both won their groups 4 weeks in a row.  One more week and we can also start tracking most improved.

We’re back downtown at Tilt next Monday, and remember that Mondays are also 2 for 1 cover, so arrive in pairs if you want to take advantage of that.  Remember that public locations have no host fee, although Tilt does have a $5 cover, but the games are on free play.
