ToPL Winter Playoffs 2018!…

ToPL Playoffs at the Player One Showroom!

Thank you to all of our great ToPL Members for coming out and making our season and playoffs such a success! Big thanks to Jerry Power and Player One for not only hosting us with a lot of great new games to play, but also for contributing a pizza and a lot of great prizes! Jerry and Player One have gone above and beyond for us! Thanks also to Myles, Jason, Chris Draper, Andy McNab, Charles, John Clegg, Luch and others that came early and helped set up games, computers, food and seating!

Our dinner was catered by Sofra Mediterranean Cuisine  of Richmond Hill. They did a great job for us!

Running the tournament software for the first time on your own really makes you appreciate those who normally take care of that element of the Playoffs, so as he was unable to attend, Chris Bardon was truly missed – and thank you for getting it mostly set up for us! While the tournament got off to a slower start as we were trying to figure out the software, we gained our footing and things went quite smoothly.

We’ve noted some areas for improvement in future playoffs, such as minimizing 3-player groupings, having A and B banks of pins, and having top seed order selection.

Fall 2018 – Scores for week 4…

Thanks to Nick for hosting ToPL this week!

Welcome to four new members; Bob, Mike, Paul, and Brian!  We hope you all had a great time, and look forward to seeing you throughout the season!

The scores are up on the PAPA site, but keep in mind that week 4 is the first week of the system taking the three drop weeks into account, so the standings got bounced around.

Everyone have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!  As it’s Thanksgiving, there’s no ToPL next Monday (Oct. 8th), but we’re back at it on the 15th.

Have a great week!

Fall 2018 – Scores for week 3…

Thanks to the Tilt Arcade Bar in Toronto for hosting ToPL this week! This increasing popularity of Tilt is noticeable every time we visit!  It was packed with people and we were happy to welcome 3 new players: Joe, Ezra, and Terry.  We hope you had a great time and look forward to seeing you throughout the season!

The scores are up on the PAPA site, with John Zaharatos pulling into the lead.

We’re out at Nick’s next week on October 1st.  Have a great week!

ToPL Playoff Results!…

The ToPL Playoffs this season were a huge success and we have a lot of people to thank for that!

P1AG Logo1
First off, Jerry Power and Player 1 provided a superb venue for the Toronto Pinball League to hold our season playoffs!  In addition to their showroom and all the machines, they also contributed pizza, wings, bottled water, and a lot of Player 1 swag as giveaways!  Furthermore, on behalf of Player 1, Jerry donated the host fees for the evening back to the league to contribute to the awards that we provide to players!  Thanks so much Jerry and Player 1!

Thanks to Chris Bardon for setting up and running our tournament software and for running our random draws for the prizes provided by our generous sponsors!  Thanks also to Luch and Myles for meeting me early at Player 1 to set up, level, and clean all the machines to ensure they were running tip-top for the tournament!

Finally, thanks to all our great membership for coming out and making our playoffs such a fun finish to our season!  We had 100% of our members come out to playoffs, and we’ve been hearing a lot of really positive feedback on the evening!

Our dinner was catered by Sofra Mediterranean Cuisine of Richmond Hill, and Gino’s Pizza.

Check out our site at topl.ca, and our Pinside page for photos from the playoffs and details about our new season starting on September 10th.

ToPL Format changes for the upcoming season!…

After a lot of evaluation and planning, we’re pleased to finally announce updates to the format for the upcoming ToPL season beginning on April 30th!

Responding to feedback from our members, the goal is to make our season, playoffs, and tournament more relevant for our members.  Many expressed that our playoffs were both ‘too much of a grind’, and had no connection to the actual season of play.  We also heard that members preferred their fees to stay with the league rather than fund what is actually an independent tournament.
Here are the highlights of how next season’s playoffs and tournaments are going to work:
ToPL Playoffs
• The new ToPL Season will remain 14 weeks, however, we will now have a true season playoffs on Week 14 (Monday evening) open to all paid ToPL Season members.
• Divisional Seedings:  Players will be automatically seeded into their playoff division (A or B) based on the season standings on Week 14, with half going to each division.
• Playoffs consist of four, single game rounds, with the 4-player groupings being rebalanced after each round.
• In groupings, season rankings determine choice of order of play – highest rank earns 1st choice, and so forth.
Playoff Finals
• After 4 rounds, the top 4 players from each division go into single elimination finals.
• Player 1 plays Player 4, and Player 2 plays Player 3 – the winners and losers of these matches will play each other, respectively, to determine the final top four outcome.
ToPL Seasonal Open Tournaments
• Future Seasonal Open Tournaments organized by ToPL will be financially self sufficient, and will incorporate a variety of tournament formats to keep play fun, fresh, and interesting.
See the updated ToPL Rules for full details.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Don’t miss the opening night of the new season, this coming Monday (April 30th) at Jim’s!
