Fall 2018-scores for week 5

Thanks to Scott and the rest of the crew at the Pint for getting everything set up for us this week!  The location seems great, and hopefully it helps expand the reach of pinball even further in the city.  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and it’s shaping up to be a close race this season.

Remember that we still have the shirts available for pre-order, and that you need to order these (and pay for them) in advance.

Have a great week, and see everyone at Adam’s on Monday!

The latest in ToPL fashion!…

Whether you want to go casual or impress with your Monday best, we’re presenting the new fall ToPL Collection!

Renowned elegance for the distinguished ToPL member, the bowling shirt is inimitable at league nights, tournaments, or international pinball expos.

Crafted from the finest rich, Corinthian polyester, and embroidered with genuine imitation silk-like thread, the generous fit bowling shirts can be ordered for $60

T-shirts are the easiest garment to use to express your personality. This cotton jersey T-shirt plays with the ToPL logo, incorporating it into a strong and decisive statement: PINBALL PLAYER.

A timeless garment symbolic of entire generations and iconic casual styling. This heavyweight cotton jersey T-shirt embodies the ToPL brand’s original attitude: the silk-screened ToPL logo on the front and back means it can be worn either way round (not really).  Order yours at the next league night for $25

We will be taking orders over the next few weeks at the league nights.  Member orders & payments will be collected prior to submitting our order for production.

Fall 2018 – Scores for week 4…

Thanks to Nick for hosting ToPL this week!

Welcome to four new members; Bob, Mike, Paul, and Brian!  We hope you all had a great time, and look forward to seeing you throughout the season!

The scores are up on the PAPA site, but keep in mind that week 4 is the first week of the system taking the three drop weeks into account, so the standings got bounced around.

Everyone have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!  As it’s Thanksgiving, there’s no ToPL next Monday (Oct. 8th), but we’re back at it on the 15th.

Have a great week!

Fall 2018 – Scores for week 3…

Thanks to the Tilt Arcade Bar in Toronto for hosting ToPL this week! This increasing popularity of Tilt is noticeable every time we visit!  It was packed with people and we were happy to welcome 3 new players: Joe, Ezra, and Terry.  We hope you had a great time and look forward to seeing you throughout the season!

The scores are up on the PAPA site, with John Zaharatos pulling into the lead.

We’re out at Nick’s next week on October 1st.  Have a great week!

Fall 2018-Scores for week 2

Thanks to Jim for hosting this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and it’s still early, so there’s not a whole lot to add other than that if the season were decided today, Mike C is ahead after 2 weeks.  There’s still a lot of pinball to play though!

Next week we’re back out in public at Tilt, so if you know someone who hasn’t made it out before, it’s a great location to check out that’s more transit-accessible than most of our locations.  Have a great week everyone!

Fall 2018-Scores for week 1

Welcome to a new TOPL season!  Thanks to Luch for hosting this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site.  Feedback on the changes we instituted last season has been almost all positive, so we’re planning on doing the same thing this season (including playoffs at P1 week 14-thanks Jerry!).  Just to clarify a couple of things that might not have been messaged really well at the end of the season, WPPR points are based on the entire season (weeks 1-13), as are the Season Champ, Most Improved, and Handicap awards.  Playoffs in week 14 have the playoff champ trophy as well as cash prizes.

Next week we’re playing at Jim’s place-have a great week everyone!

ToPL Playoff Results!…

The ToPL Playoffs this season were a huge success and we have a lot of people to thank for that!

P1AG Logo1
First off, Jerry Power and Player 1 provided a superb venue for the Toronto Pinball League to hold our season playoffs!  In addition to their showroom and all the machines, they also contributed pizza, wings, bottled water, and a lot of Player 1 swag as giveaways!  Furthermore, on behalf of Player 1, Jerry donated the host fees for the evening back to the league to contribute to the awards that we provide to players!  Thanks so much Jerry and Player 1!

Thanks to Chris Bardon for setting up and running our tournament software and for running our random draws for the prizes provided by our generous sponsors!  Thanks also to Luch and Myles for meeting me early at Player 1 to set up, level, and clean all the machines to ensure they were running tip-top for the tournament!

Finally, thanks to all our great membership for coming out and making our playoffs such a fun finish to our season!  We had 100% of our members come out to playoffs, and we’ve been hearing a lot of really positive feedback on the evening!

Our dinner was catered by Sofra Mediterranean Cuisine of Richmond Hill, and Gino’s Pizza.

Check out our site at topl.ca, and our Pinside page for photos from the playoffs and details about our new season starting on September 10th.

The CNEPC is on at the CNE this weekend (August 24-26), and it’s a really well run tournament that you don’t want to miss!

Looking forward to seeing everyone in September!

Dave

It’s time for the PLAYOFFS!…

It’s been another great season for the Toronto Pinball League, and we appreciate our hosts and members for making ToPL such a great pinball league!
Jerry Power of Player 1 Amusements Group has generously offered to host our playoffs at the Player 1 Showroom! (6420 Viscount Road in Mississauga)  They will have a large selection of modern pins for us to play, and a fantastic setting for us to play in!

Another bonus:  The parts desk will be open in a limited capacity – if you order and pay for parts over the phone on Monday, you will be able to pick them up at the ToPL Playoffs!
Doors open at 6:00 pm with food being served around 6:30 pm, and Playoffs starting at 8:00 pm sharp.
As our end of season league playoffs, participation is open only to all paid league members.
5.3  Division Eligibility
•  Divisional seeding is based on the season standings after week 13.
•  Divisional seeding will be determined at playoffs on the 14th week of the season with half going into each division.
•  Players must have participated in at least 50% (5 weeks) of the regular season to be eligible for A Division.

Scores for week 13, plus playoff details

Thanks to Walt for opening up Bluffs for us this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, which officially wraps up the regular season for Summer 2018.  First off, Congrats to Charles for winning the Season Championship for the first time in several years!  He takes home the trophy as well as a replay into next season.  Adam Hollander also had a great season, taking both the handicap and the most improved awards, narrowly beating out Chris Draper, who also had a fantastic season this year.  Trophies will be available at the beginning of next season.

Next Monday is the season playoffs at the Player One showroom(6420 Viscount Road Mississauga, NOT the old location off the 401).  For this event, doors open at 6pm, and we’re aiming to have food there for 6:30.  We’ll still aim to start the tournament at 8 if you can’t make it until then, but it’ll at least give everyone a chance to play some games and get something to eat before starting.  Based on the number of players we had this season, we’re splitting 12 players in A, and everyone else in B.  Right now A division looks like this:

1    Charles Blaquiere
2    Chris Draper
3    Kirk Hutton
4    Mike Faria
5    Adam Hollander
6    Andrew Aiken
7    Andy McNab
8    Josh Zilberberg
9    David Newman
10    Myles Cameron
11    Andrew Lounsbury
12    Les Kowal

If anyone on that list can’t make it, we’ll keep going down the list to fill out the division.  Both A and B are going to work like this:

  • 4p Match Play groups with standard 7-5-3-1 scoring
  • 1 game per round, with groups getting re-balanced after each round
  • Swiss groups-similar win/loss records get put together.  The best players have to beat the best players
  • The top 4 after 4 rounds go into a single elimination bracket to determine the division champ!

Hope to see everyone out next Monday-it should be a good time!
