Scores and Standings-week 1

Welcome to another season of the Toronto Pinball League!  Last night we started our third season for 2015, which is slated to run from now until the beginning of December.  We’ve got some good stuff planned for the rest of the year, including the pinball machine giveaway at the end of season playoffs.  Remember that it’s an entry for every regular league night and playoff that you attended in the three 2015 seasons, so the more you come out, the more chance you have to win!

As always, thanks to Kim, our host, for opening up his home to us, and keeping everyone fed through the evening.  We had three new people join us for their first league night, so welcome to Catherine, Phil, and Chris P-hopefully we’ll see you out again soon!  The scores for this week are up on the PAPA site.  Only one week in, so there’s not much to see yet, but several people are up in double digits.

This week we also had a mystery score giveaway, where the score whose last five digits were closest to the sealed value (this time 72163) won a TOPL shirt, courtesy of Eddie D’Orazio.  This week’s winner, pictured below, was John Flitton, who couldn’t wait to show off his prize to the camera:

So congratulations John, and thanks again to Eddie for the donation.  We’ll be doing a couple more of the mystery shirt draws this season, so keep an eye on the website updates, and we’ll announce it in advance next time.

Next week we’re taking the stat holiday off, so have a good long weekend, and I’ll see you at Luch’s on the 10th.  Also, good luck to everyone going to the Pinburgh tournament at ReplayFX in Pittsburgh.  This year is going to break last year’s record for the largest match play tournament, with 700 players competing, including a bunch of TOPL players.

Playoff Results-July 19, 2015

Thanks to everyone who made it out for the playoff tournament yesterday!  This was the first time we’d run a match play tournament using the new matchplay.events, and so we appreciate everyone’s understanding as we get accustomed to the new software.  I think everyone will agree that having the current standings/matches available on other devices helps though.  If you still want to go back and look at detailed round by round results, you can check them out here.

At the end of 20 rounds of play, these were the standings:

End of Season House Keeping

First and foremost I wanted to thank everyone who make it out week after week, the membership and our hosts are what make the league as great as it is and I’m quite proud of the community that we have built!

In our ongoing effort to remain as transparent as possible with all the funds that come into the league I’ve finished the Financial Ledger for the Summer of 2015 Season, it can be found here:

As you can see before playoffs we have $1440 to use for prizes.  We are going to hold back $400 of the money taken in the season to use for giveaways and to put towards the pinball machine giveaway.

Right now the Bally Rock Makers in my basement is going to be the machine we will be using for the giveaway, but we are keeping our eyes out for something a little nicer J  If we can find something within the budget.  We will keep everyone updated on that progress.

I also wanted to let everyone know that we are going to be doing the mystery score giveaway more frequently, starting the first week of the new season on July 27th.  We are going to be doing at least 3 – 4 of the Grey TOPL shirts donated by Eddie this Season, I’m also on the hunt for other prizes and will be announcing those as they become available!

On behalf of the TOPL Leadership team I wanted to thanks for another great season and I look forward to seeing everyone at playoffs!

Adam, Chris and Mike

Scores and standings-week 15

This week brought another TOPL season to a close, with a good turnout at Nick’s place to finish things off.  Thanks again to Nick for having us all out!  This season we had 69 different players, and played 15 weeks on 89 different machines.  In the end, Adam ended up grabbing season champ again to win a replay into next season, and the Season Champ trophy.  He also managed to hang onto the High Score trophy for another season, pulling ahead to 20 high scores for the season.  On the most improved front, Stephane’s lead held, to give him the Most Improved trophy, as well as a replay into next season.  Congratulations to Stephane and Adam, and thanks to all the hosts and players who made this season happen.  Full scores for the season are up on the PAPA site.

This Sunday we have the playoffs tournament at Jim’s.  Doors open at 10, and match play starts at 11.  If you show up late, we can add you into later rounds, but we’re planning on 20 match play rounds to start with, so it’ll be a full day of pinball for everyone.  Then, our next season starts up on the 27th.  Have a great week everyone, and see you on Sunday!

Scores and Standings-week 14

Thanks to Luch for hosting this week!  With only two weeks left in the season, we’re still getting new members coming out, so welcome to Jim, Arthur, and Jeffrey.  Hopefully you guys enjoyed yourselves, and you can make it out for the playoffs next weekend, and the next season starting up at the end of July.  Scores for this week are up on the PAPA site.  High scores are still a race between Adam and John, although John would need to get all four high scores next week, and Adam 0, for him to take the trophy.  On the most improved side, Stephane and Luch both dropped a few points this week, so Stephane stays in the lead for now.  For the points total, remember that the overall points for the season count towards WPPR points for the year, so showing up week after week only helps your overall ranking.

Remember that playoffs are going to be at Jim’s place on Sunday the 19th, and that match play is starting at 11 AM.  Doors open at 10, and we’ll have plenty of food there for everyone through the day.  The plan is for 20 rounds of match play, followed by a playoff for the cash prizes.

Have a great week everyone, and I’ll see you at Nick’s next Monday to finish off the season.

Scores and standings-week 13

Thanks again to Adam for hosting everyone again this week, and to Denise for keeping everyone fed.  The scores for this week are up on the PAPA site.  We’re getting down to the wire for the season, and with two weeks left, there’s still room for things to change in the point totals.  Luch has moved up the most improved ranks though, and is closing in on Stephane.  Have a great Canada Day everyone, and a long weekend if you’re extending it, and I’ll see everyone at Luch’s next Monday.

Scores and Standings-week 12

Thanks to Andrew for hosting everyone again this week!  We’re running down to the last few weeks of the season, and we’re still getting new players coming out, so welcome to Peter, and we hope you can make it out to more league nights in the future.  The full scores are up on the PAPA site.  Adam has now pulled into the lead for season points total, but it’s still a tie for high scores.  Stephane continues to lead the most improved race.

Just a reminder that the TOPL playoffs are coming up on July 19th at Jim’s.  There’s also the ReplayFX festival coming up on July 30-Aug 2, and even if you’re not playing in the sold out Pinburgh tournament, the rest of the show is looking great.  Next week we’re up to Adam’s place in Keswick-have a great week everyone!

scores for week 11 are up

Thanks to Nick for hosting us again, especially with what appeared to be a record turnout.  37 players for the evening, but there was still ample space and games for everyone.  We also had a drop in visit from TOPL alumni Alexis (FLX), who some of you remember moved off to the UK a few years back.  We also had three new members come out last night, so welcome to Ruo and the two Daves!

Scores for this week are up on the PAPA website, and I’ve also changed the link in the top navigation menu to always point to the latest scores.  There’s enough old data on there now to keep most improved stats accurate (we’re up to the last three seasons).  Remember that if you have any questions about how the new system works, or if you notice something that’s not lining up, don’t hesitate to ask.  It looks like Adam and John are now tied for points total and high scores, while Stephane is still hanging onto the lead for Most Improved.

Next week we’re at Andrew’s place-have a great week everyone!

Scores and standings week 10

Thanks to everyone for coming out to my place this week!  We had a good turnout for the last third of the season, and things are still far from locked.  Besides, there’s pinball to be played, and play it we did!  As usual, scores are also posted on the new site as well as here.  There should be enough data on the papa site so that most improved is accurate for everyone now (at least it matches what’s in the excel sheet now), and you can go back and look at the data for the past few seasons.  Starting next season, the papa site is going to be the only place we’ll publish scores, and we’re working on ways to get even more historical data on there.

High scores this week went to:

Which keeps John in the lead for the season, but Adam is catching up:
