ToPL Format changes for the upcoming season!…

After a lot of evaluation and planning, we’re pleased to finally announce updates to the format for the upcoming ToPL season beginning on April 30th!

Responding to feedback from our members, the goal is to make our season, playoffs, and tournament more relevant for our members.  Many expressed that our playoffs were both ‘too much of a grind’, and had no connection to the actual season of play.  We also heard that members preferred their fees to stay with the league rather than fund what is actually an independent tournament.
Here are the highlights of how next season’s playoffs and tournaments are going to work:
ToPL Playoffs
• The new ToPL Season will remain 14 weeks, however, we will now have a true season playoffs on Week 14 (Monday evening) open to all paid ToPL Season members.
• Divisional Seedings:  Players will be automatically seeded into their playoff division (A or B) based on the season standings on Week 14, with half going to each division.
• Playoffs consist of four, single game rounds, with the 4-player groupings being rebalanced after each round.
• In groupings, season rankings determine choice of order of play – highest rank earns 1st choice, and so forth.
Playoff Finals
• After 4 rounds, the top 4 players from each division go into single elimination finals.
• Player 1 plays Player 4, and Player 2 plays Player 3 – the winners and losers of these matches will play each other, respectively, to determine the final top four outcome.
ToPL Seasonal Open Tournaments
• Future Seasonal Open Tournaments organized by ToPL will be financially self sufficient, and will incorporate a variety of tournament formats to keep play fun, fresh, and interesting.
See the updated ToPL Rules for full details.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Don’t miss the opening night of the new season, this coming Monday (April 30th) at Jim’s!

Season 1 2018-Scores for week 14

Despite icy conditions of what is hopefully winter’s last roar, we had a great final week at Andy McNab’s with 18 players to close out the season!  Welcome to Mike Faria who posted a decent score on his first night out to ToPL!

This was a very interesting season and a close race throughout the whole season.  The final scores are up on the PAPA site

Big congratulations to Mike Capocci for winning the season!  Congratulations to Andy McNab for winning the Pinball Wizard trophy for highest handicapped point total!  Congratulations to Adam Hollander for winning the Most Improved Award!  Your trophies will be available early next season!

The ToPL Spring Playoffs Tournament is this coming Sunday (April 22nd) at Mike Luciani’s house.  We have a new format for this open tournament:  11 rounds of 4-player match play and a best of 3 bracket final for the top four players in each division.  Doors open at noon and play starts at 1:00 pm.

Our new season starts on April 30th at Jim’s!

Thanks for a great season everyone!

Season 1 2018-Scores for week 13

The season is almost finished, and the results for this week are up in the usual place, and Mike Capocci is still leading the season, although AndyMcNab could still take the season if everything lines up for him next week.  Adam Hollander is also still leading the most improved race, but there’s still room for those rankings to change with the last week of the season.

Next week we’re at Andy’s place to finish out the season, and then at Luch’s on Sunday the 22nd for the playoff tournament.  Just a reminder that this season we’re not starting until 1 pm (doors open at noon), and that we’re playing 4 player groups, so hopefully things will wrap up more quickly than previous tournaments.  Have a great week everyone!

Season 1 2018-scores for week 12

Thanks to Walt and the crew at Bluffs for hosting us this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and Mike continues to lead the season.  Luch has taken the handicap lead though, while Adam Hollander has a very slight lead in most improved.  Only two more weeks to go…

Next week we’re at my place in Mississauga-have a great week everyone!

Season 1 2018-scores for week 11

Thanks to Adam for hosting this week!  We had a couple of guests from the Netherlands this week, with Robin and Martign visiting as part of their North American tour following the Texas Pinball Festival.  Not quite the record for the furthest someone has come for a TOPL night (that still belongs, I believe, to Patrick from Sweden), but it was still great to welcome visiting pinheads, and a good location to check out.

Scores are up in the usual place, and despite “not being a competitive player”, Mike is continuing to lead the season, while Newman is holding on to a slim lead in the Most Improved race.

We’re back out at Bluffs next Monday-have a great long weekend everyone!

Season 1 2018-scores for week 10

Thanks to Nick for hosting us this week!  The scores are up on the PAPA site.  Mike Capocci has reclaimed the top spot leading the season, Andy McNab climbed into the top spot for handicapped scores, and David Newman is leading Most Improved.

Big thanks to Jerry at Player 1 for loaning a Houdini for us to play, and for providing 2 framed Houdini promotional posters for our mystery score giveaway!  Our host provided a random 5 digit mystery score before league play started, and the two players with scores ending in 5 digits closest to the mystery score of 75,321 were Andy McNab (75, 464 on Houdini) and Stephane Raymond (950,475,750 on Theatre of Magic).  Congratulations guys!  You can collect your prizes at the next league night.

We’re playing at Adam’s next Monday.  Have a great week!

Season 1 2018-scores for week 8

Thanks to Eddie for hosting this week, and thanks to Jerry at Player One for bringing some new games out!  It was great to get a chance to try out the new Houdini game.  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and it continues to be a close race for the season lead.  Adam Hollander continues to dominate the Most Improved standings, while Mike Capocci is holding on to his season lead (although with the next 4 players within 6 points).

Next week we’re playing at Jim’s place-have a great week everyone!

Season 1 2018-scores for week 7

Thanks to Kim for hosting this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and while Mike Capocci continues to lead the season, there are a lot of other people close behind.  Adam Hollander is still leading the most improved race with 19%, but there’s still half a season left to play, so lots can happen.

Next week we’re back to Eddie’s place-have a great week everyone!
