Season 2 2017-Scores for week 9

Thanks to Jim for hosting this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and we’re up to 28 players with a valid percentage.  Adam, JRF, and Brian are still at the top of the league standings, while Kim is still leading the handicap race.  Luch has taken a slim lead over Julian on most improved.

I’ve also had people mention that they haven’t been receiving updates from the Yahoo group.  I’ve gone back in and double checked, and the email notification settings are enabled for the event, but as you can imagine, yahoo groups support isn’t great these days, since it’s a near-dead platform.  Just a reminder that the calendar is always available at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/topl/events, and the events are listed in the sidebar at topl.ca (although not with the addresses for privacy).  The Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/torontopinballleague/) is definitely the best place to get event dates, since it syncs to most calendar applications (e.g. Google Calendar), so it’s really easy to get it to show up on your phone.  I’ll continue to see what I can find out on the Yahoo issue though and try to make sure emails are going out to the group.  Otherwise, if anyone knows of another event management solution that can replace Yahoo groups, let me know and I’ll check it out.

Next week we’re at Josh’s place-have a great week everyone!

Season 2 2017-Scores for week 8

Thanks to Nick for hosting this week, and for letting everyone check out a couple of rare new games.  This was the first time we’d had Batman 66 and Rob Zombie in league play, and even though it wasn’t playable, getting to see a Magic Girl prototype in person is something that not a lot of pinball fans have gotten to do.  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and Adam has pulled into the lead for the season.  Kim has regained the top spot for handicap, and Brian is still holding on to a slim lead in the Most Improved category.

There’s no pinball next Monday for the long weekend, and then the week after that we’re at Jim’s place.  Have a great long weekend everyone, and see everyone in a couple of weeks!

Also, note that the date for playoffs has changed because of the CNE Pinball Championship happening the last weekend of August.  We moved our tournament up a week to clear the next weekend off to give people a chance to participate in this new event.  It has the potential to be one of the largest tournaments we’ve ever had in Toronto, and will be the closest thing we have to a pinball show in the city this year!

Season 2 2017-scores for week 6

Thanks to Adam for hosting this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and Brian has pulled into the lead for points over the season, and is tied with Kim for the handicap lead.  Brian also has a pretty commanding lead for most improved, but it’s still early so we’ll see how long he can keep the streak up.

Next week we’re at Andrew’s place, and take note that the address has changed.  I’ve also heard from a few people that you haven’t been getting the automated emails from the yahoo group, and I’m looking into what’s up with it.  Have a great week everyone!

Season 2 2017-Scores for week 5

Thanks to Luch for hosting this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and Adam, Brian, JRF and Capocci are all within a couple points of the lead.  Now that we’re 5 weeks in, we can start tracking most improved, and Myles is already off to a strong start there.  Lots of weeks left in the season though, so still a lot of room for movement, and for new players who want to come check out the league.

Next week we’re back at Adam’s place-have a great week everyone!

Season 2 2017-Scores for week 4

Thanks to Scott, Walt, and the rest of the Bluffs crew for opening the warehouse for us this week!  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and it’s still a little early to say much about how the season is going., except that the scores this week were some of the most evenly matched that I can remember.  It’s not too often that you get a group going 10-10-10-10.  We can start tracking most improved after next week.

Good luck to Adam and Phil, who are both representing Canada at the IFPA world championships.  The tournament is heading to Canada next year, so it’d be great to have a Canadian as defending champ!

Next week we’re at Luch’s place-have a great week everyone!

Season 2 2017-Scores for week 3

Thanks to Eddie for hosting this week!  It looks like the season is already off to a strong start with 45 players so far, and that’s only 3 weeks in.  Scores are up on the PAPA site, and while it’s still early, Myles is leading the handicapped race.  A couple more weeks and we’ll start tracking Most Improved as well.

There have also been a couple of updates to the calendar, so if you haven’t re-synced, you might want to make sure you’re up to date.  The TOPL website, Facebook, and Yahoo have all been updated with the correct hosts for the rest of the season.  We’re skipping next week for Victoria Day, and then playing at Bluffs on the 29th.  Walt warned us that it can get really hot there in the summer, so getting in before it gets too humid is probably a good plan.  Thanks again to all the hosts, and I’m looking forward to a great season!  Have a good long weekend everyone, and I’ll see you on the 29th.

Season 2 2017-Scores for week 1

Welcome to the second Season of TOPL for 2017!

Sorry for not getting this out sooner, I actually had the scores in the Monday night right at the end of league, I just hadn’t gotten around to posting publicly about it.

Anyway thanks as always to Kim and Lori for opening their home and providing food and drink along with access to the games for the night.

Not much to report as it is just the start of a new seasons so anything can still happen.  The full results are up here.

See everyone this Monday at TILT, we are also going to bring back the Mystery Score for this week.  Win a TOPL 20th Anniversary shirt by getting the score closest to the Mystery score!

Season 1 2017-Playoff results

Thanks to Luch for hosting playoffs this season, and also for supplying all the food and drinks for the day!  We had 34 players out for a solid day of pinball.  The new format of splitting A/B divisions seems to have worked well over the past few seasons, and we’re continuing to refine how we’re doing things.  This time it ended up being a reasonably clean split between A and B divisions, giving us 15 B players, and 19 in A.  After 17 rounds of qualifying (10 for B post-split), here’s how things stood:

A:

B:

After the usual 1 game tiebreakers, we had 4 game playoffs to determine the final top 8, to give out cash prizes.  The top 8 in B were:

1.    John Zaharatos
2.    Ryan Matheson
3.    John Clegg
4.    Adam Hollander
5.    Chris Frolic
6.    Jim Wilks
7.    David Newman
8.    Karl Braun

And for the A division:

1.    Adam Becker
2.    Steve Machado
3.    Robert Luciani
4.    John Flitton
5.    Kirk Hutton
6.    Ken Lapointe
7.    Chris Draper
8.    Chris Bardon

Congratulations to all the winners-results should be posted to the IFPA shortly.

As usual, there’s no pinball tomorrow, but we’re starting up again May 1st at Kim’s place.  Dates for most of the season have been posted already, and the last few weeks should be filled in shortly, so this is a perfect time to bring new people out to join TOPL.  Have a great week off, and hopefully we’ll see everyone back for next season!
